Local business schema generator
Asked once and used everywhere it is needed. You will not be asked for any of this again.
Exactly as you write it on your site and on your Google Business Profile. Matching them is what ties the two together.
The homepage, not the page you are marking up.
Address, phone and profiles
Optional for Google, but this is what lets an AI assistant be sure it has found the right business.
Two or three plain sentences, the way you would explain it to a new customer. This is often the exact text an AI assistant reads back when someone asks about you.
Include the country code, starting with a plus.
Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, your , Yelp, Wikipedia. This is the strongest single signal that an has found the right business and not a similarly named one.
More about your local business
7 more fields are filled from the details above, so they are not repeated here.
What helps AI assistants recommend you
Google does not ask for these. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers use them to work out whether they have found the right business, which decides whether you get named as the source.
Cities or regions you cover. Answer engines use this for "near me" style questions.
Optional, but they improve how you appear
Pick the most specific match. A specific subtype tells a machine far more than the generic one. If your exact trade is not here, choose the closest parent: schema.org has no class for every trade, and a broader type that is real beats a specific one that is invented.
A real, publicly reachable photo. Not a logo, and not a file behind a login.
One row per set of days that share the same hours.
Monday, Tuesday, and so on.
Pick the most specific type that is true
Dentist tells a machine what you do. LocalBusiness tells it you exist somewhere. Most tools only offer the second.
Trades
Plumber · Electrician · HVACBusiness · RoofingContractor · HousePainter · Locksmith
Medical
Dentist · PhysiciansOffice · MedicalClinic · Optician · Pharmacy
Legal and finance
Attorney · AccountingService · InsuranceAgency · RealEstateAgent · Notary
Health and beauty
HairSalon · BeautySalon · NailSalon · DaySpa · ExerciseGym
Food and drink
Restaurant · CafeOrCoffeeShop · Bakery · BarOrPub · Brewery
Automotive
AutoRepair · AutoBodyShop · AutoDealer · TireShop · AutoWash
The picker offers 111 subtypes, every one checked against the live schema.org vocabulary. That matters more than it sounds: several popular generators offer types that do not exist, and a made-up class is not a more specific description, it is an unrecognised one that gets discarded along with everything nested inside it.
If your exact trade is missing, do not invent one. Schema.org genuinely has no class for a landscaper, a cleaner, a pest controller or a photographer. Use the nearest real parent, usually HomeAndConstructionBusiness or ProfessionalService, and write the actual trade in the description.
Match your Google Business Profile exactly
Your name, address and phone appear in at least three places: your site copy, your markup, and your Business Profile. When they disagree, something decides which is right, and it will not ask you.
Copy them across character for character. Same street abbreviation, same suite formatting, same trading name. "Ste 4" and "Suite 4" are two addresses to a matching algorithm even though they are one address to you. If you have moved, changed number, or dropped the Ltd from your name, this is where the old version is still sitting.
Cheapest consistency check in local SEO, about two minutes, and almost nobody runs it.
Storefront, service area, or neither
LocalBusiness assumes a place customers can go to. Plenty of local businesses do not have one, and the required address field is where they get talked into publishing something untrue.
Customers come to you
Shop, clinic, salon, restaurant. Full postal address, opening hours, map coordinates. The case the markup was designed for.
You go to customers
Plumber, mobile groomer, cleaner. Publish an address only if you are happy for it to be public, and lean on areas served. Name real towns, not a radius.
Neither, really
Agency or consultancy with clients anywhere. LocalBusiness is the wrong shape. Use Organization plus Service and skip the place claim.
Never invent a street address to satisfy a required field. A fabricated address is worse than no place result, because unlike most things in markup it can be checked.
More than one location
One entity per physical location, each on its own page, each with its own address and its own @id. Three addresses stacked into one block describes a single business somehow in three places.
The part almost everyone misses is the link back up. Each location should point at the parent company rather than repeating its details inline, so five branches are five places belonging to one organization instead of five businesses sharing a name. Select both LocalBusiness and Organization and the builder wires that for you.
This is also where hand-building stops being reasonable. Twenty locations is twenty pages of markup to keep current every time a phone number changes, and markup that has drifted is worse than none, since it contradicts the page it sits on.
Questions about local schema
01What does local business schema markup do?
LocalBusiness markup states your name, address, phone, opening hours and service area in a machine-readable format. It helps Google connect your website to the right place in Search and Maps, and it gives answer engines the specifics they need to surface you for questions that include a location. It does not replace a Google Business Profile, it corroborates one.
02Which LocalBusiness type should I use?
Use the most specific subtype that genuinely fits. Dentist tells a machine far more than LocalBusiness, and Plumber more than HomeAndConstructionBusiness. This tool offers 111 subtypes covering trades, medical, legal, beauty, food, retail, automotive and professional services. If nothing fits exactly, the generic LocalBusiness is fine, but do not pick a subtype that is close-but-wrong.
03What does local business schema require?
Google requires a name and a complete postal address for the place result. Beyond that, telephone, opening hours, a real photo, a price range and map coordinates all improve how the result is shown. For answer engines the two that matter most are sameAs links to your real profiles, which confirm you are the company they think you are, and an explicit list of the areas you serve.
04Should my address in schema match my Google Business Profile?
Yes, exactly. Mismatched details between your site's markup and your Business Profile are a signal to ignore one of them, and it is not a coincidence which one wins. Copy the address, phone and business name across verbatim, including how the street line is abbreviated. This is the cheapest consistency check in local SEO and almost nobody does it.
05Can I use local business schema if I have no storefront?
If customers never visit you, a service-area business is better described with an address you are willing to publish plus an explicit areaServed list, or with Organization and Service markup instead of LocalBusiness. Do not invent a street address to satisfy a required field. A fabricated address is worse than no place result, because it can be checked.
06How many locations can I mark up?
One LocalBusiness entity per physical location, each on its own page with its own address and its own @id. Do not stack several addresses into one block. When the locations belong to one company, link each of them to the parent Organization, which this tool does automatically when you select both types.
